Summary

Rupi Kaur constantly embraces growth, and in home body, she walks readers through a reflective and intimate journey visiting the past, the present, and the potential of the self。 home body is a collection of raw, honest conversations with oneself – reminding readers to fill up on love, acceptance, community, family, and embrace change。 Illustrated by the author, themes of nature and nurture, light and dark, rest here。

i dive into the well of my body
and end up in another world
everything i need
already exists in me
there’s no need
to look anywhere else

Tem alguns poemas que me identifiquei bastante e outros que achei meio clichê mas em geral não achei ruim。

Am I the only one who reads a book of an author who has left no impression previously but everyone is so hyped about the author that you feel you should read it just to make sure it's actually not your cup of tea? So this is me and Rupi Kaur。 Indeed, I won't lie -- there were some poems (?) that I enjoyed and I do think she touches upon important topics: mental health, abusive relationships, and self-love。 Reading this collection made me think, however, why she is so popular。 I think this is a m Am I the only one who reads a book of an author who has left no impression previously but everyone is so hyped about the author that you feel you should read it just to make sure it's actually not your cup of tea? So this is me and Rupi Kaur。 Indeed, I won't lie -- there were some poems (?) that I enjoyed and I do think she touches upon important topics: mental health, abusive relationships, and self-love。 Reading this collection made me think, however, why she is so popular。 I think this is a more interesting question than her writing and I would love to read a sociological paper on that (a quick attempt to find some were fruitless)。 Also, I've always thought that she bases her poems on her personal experience but it turns out not to be a case。 Instead, she talks on behalf of South Asian community。 I will leave the moral judgment to you。 You know what made me check my "facts"? In one poem ("sex is a way for people") Rupi talks, I believe, a sexually abuse child-parent relationship, yet in another ("while i was growing up") a very dear picture of a hard-working dad is portrayed。 Can both, seemingly conflicting, emotional states co-exist in one's life? Maybe, I don't know。 But at least it does not in Rupi's life or such is my current belief。The real benefit of her poetry for me is that it's so short that I don't even have to skim to finish it super fast。 My GoodReads challenge looks a bit better now。 。。。more

Beautiful。 Stunning。 The words seemed to be written especially for me。 A grounding and meditative experience。 One that I will return to over and over again。

Beautiful, raw, empowering。 Cheers, Rupi! Some favorite lines: 9。 No matter how dark it gets the light is always on its way。 10。 You are the light。 I want to come out of this room different people。 Can you do that?Always becoming and unbecoming only to become again。 Our fuller selves are not off in the future, they’re right here, in the only moment that exists。 Being productive is knowing when to rest。 No one is qualified to decide your worth。 Your job is to show up for the process。 Be patient。 Beautiful, raw, empowering。 Cheers, Rupi! You have all of you on your side。 I am waking up to my god self。 。。。more

This is a great book if you struggled from mental illness, and I will absolutely be recommending to my friends and book club!!

After feeling disconnected for so long my mind and body are finally coming back to each other_Rupi Kaur。How can I not read this book and fall in love again when I was waiting for something like this to exist。 Healing is a long process and this book made this process a little bit easy。

I am bit of a newbie to the poetry books。 But when reading poetry it’s more of a subjective read as everyone connects with it in their own ways。Throughout this collection of poems Kaur explored strong themes of her life that I think numerous people could connect with。 It also explores how many people’s mental health went down the drain during quarantine。 But I think due to my age in the young adult area I skimmed through this is about and hour because of how some do the poems were moving at time I am bit of a newbie to the poetry books。 But when reading poetry it’s more of a subjective read as everyone connects with it in their own ways。Throughout this collection of poems Kaur explored strong themes of her life that I think numerous people could connect with。 It also explores how many people’s mental health went down the drain during quarantine。 But I think due to my age in the young adult area I skimmed through this is about and hour because of how some do the poems were moving at times, some of them made me felt empathy for Kaur and some of them with so short。3。5 。。。more

I think I’ll read all her works backwards but I highly enjoyed! More so than I expected。 This felt dark and angry and transcendent。 Who doesn’t love that

3。5 I maintain her works need to be consumed as whole books and those who condescend to her style of poetry have never attempted to understand that。 We are more than the sum of our parts than how can our art, especially poetry, be any less。 Exactly what I needed right now at the height of seasonal affective states of mind。 To feel seen and held and heard in concise, impactful words。
